YOU CAN PLAY THE piano like a pro too!
Your Piano Bestie is a passion project that combines my 21 years of piano playing, 15 years of piano competing, and my 5 years of piano teaching experience into an online platform where I share with you everything I have learned through thousands of hours in practice and hundreds of thousands of dollars paid in tuition.
I started my piano journey 21 years ago and decided that I wanted to pursue my love for music in higher education, so I graduated university with two departmental honors and a degree in Piano Performance. I studied with various famous pianists and Juilliard professors/musicians in master classes and lessons, most notably:
Vadym Kholodenko and Yekwon Sunwoo (1st Place Van Cliburn winners), Jerome Lowenthal, Frank Wiens, Bernadine Blaha, Yoheved Kaplinsky, Julio Elizalde, Grace Fong, Craig Richey, Joseph Matthews, Michael Sushel, Mark Uranker, and more.
I credit a huge portion of the knowledge and skills I possess to these amazing teachers and artists.
I have competed internationally and placed consistently for 15 years and won the grand prize at my first major open concerto competition when I was 15 and performed the first movement of Prokofiev’s Piano Concert no. 3 in C Major, Op. 26 with the California State University, Long Beach Symphony. Since then, I have most notably placed twice in 5th in the Los Angeles International Liszt Competition, won 1st Place in the United States Open Music Competition in San Francisco, and performed my debut at Carnegie Hall in NYC Prokofiev’s Toccata in D minor, op. 11 through the American Fine Arts International Festival.

THE JOY OF Teaching Piano
To be completely honest, I never thought that I would ever teach piano, but 5 years ago, I became the music director at my local house of worship and even directed my first children’s holiday choir program. This was when I met my first piano students, and since then I have taught students piano from various ages and various skill levels from beginners to advanced. Many of my students have tested for certifications through The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) and received distinction and merit. My students have also placed first prize in both national and international piano competitions all across the world, from the United States to Taiwan. I presently teach students online and offer a variety of resources for them such as notes, recordings, and score analysis.
THE FOUNDATION OF MUSICianship IS TECHNIQUE
There are sets of fundamental piano techniques in which everything else is built on, and you can only build so tall when your foundation is shaky. These technical tools are necessary for self expression, and learning proper technique not only carries you far and wide in many different styles and genre of piano music, but is integral for battling discomfort and injury prevention.
Preparation - provisioning hand positions and fingers well in advance before actually playing the notes
Execution - no forceful exertion, but instead utilizing the natural weight of your arms and body combined with a variety of touches to create an orchestral, colorful palette
Relaxation - letting go of ALL tension between every single note with NO exceptions
Minimalization - setting the standard that every action made by your body, arms, or fingers has been optimized and is meaningful and efficient
The vast gulf between technical and musical proficiency in piano and the starting line can only be bridged by discipline. However, for many beginners or those who simply want to pursue piano and music as a hobby in a casual context, they might find the thought of disciplinary practice incredibly daunting and way too overbearing. The truth is that excessive, poor quality practice MUST be replaced with mindful, deliberate, and strategic precision, which increases efficiency and all the while reducing mental load and making practice truly meaningful.
My goal is to provide my students with these technical tools and comprehension skills necessary to take them into whatever musical passions they wish to pursue.

“I had the pleasure of taking piano lessons with Your Piano Bestie. I enjoyed every second of it and she was extremely informative and clear on how to do things. From day one she had the absolute best communication. Even when I wasn’t taking lessons yet she was always there to answer my questions at pretty much any time. The lessons were extremely clear and had a very good pace. She listens to you, knows how to respond and is always there for you. She went way beyond my expectations especially on the communication part and highly doubt there is anyone even remotely close to her. For some people online lessons might be a turnoff but I can guarantee you won’t regret choosing her. Can’t recommend her enough she really is one of a kind teacher! You aren’t going to find this quality anywhere else!”
“I started lessons with Your Piano Bestie knowing that I was in need of a lot of guidance in my fundamentals, but wasn't sure where to begin or focus + dealt with hand pains as a result of my poor posture + technique. She immediately helped identify some of my biggest areas of weakness both physically + mentally and gave me clear, direct ways to build from the ground up with technical exercises + fun pieces to explore. I felt like my needs and goals were understood in every lesson, and the patience & understanding she displays (without coddling or going "easy") made every single lesson a highlight of my week - and at no point did I feel the pains and discomfort I thought were inevitable thanks to a heavy focus on relaxation with clear, actionable steps for progress. There's nothing better than having a tremendously skilled and knowledgeable teacher who can challenge you while ensuring you remain comfortable. I strongly encourage anyone looking to develop their technique + piano fundamentals to study with Your Piano Bestie!”
“I had the pleasure of working with Your Piano Bestie on piano pedagogy. What I expected to be some straightforward lessons turned out to be an entirely holistic learning experience, equipping me with insights that I could even apply to my voice studio. Her approach pushed me to think beyond my expectations and explore deeper concepts while maintaining a light and enjoyable atmosphere. For anyone seeking to elevate their piano playing or teachers aiming to refine their skills, I can't recommend Your Piano Bestie enough!”
